Dr KC warns of another death fast

Dr Govinda KC, a senior orthopedician at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, has warned of staging what could be his eighth fast-unto-death protest from January 25 to press the government into implementing the past agreements and forming the proposed Health Profession Education Commission.
Issuing a statement on Wednesday, the doctor accused the lawmakers and politicians of trying to fulfil their vested interests in the name of establishing new medical colleges and hospitals. He was indicating to the government's effort to establish Manmohan Insitute of Health Sciences as an academy with an authority to run MBBS programme.
Meanwhile, Education Minister Giriraj Mani Pokhrel has assured Dr KC that works are underway to form the commission.
He has asked Dr KC to have some patience and put off his protest plan, saying that the government is currently involved in the process of constitution amendment and that it would take some time to address his concerns.
